The thing about gratitude is that it magnifies the good in your life. Too often we are trained, in various subtle ways, to feel inadequate in our possessions and worth, causing us to feel as though we are in lack. It also doesn't help that we live in a consumerism focused society with plenty of methods by which to peer into others' lives and compare our life to theirs. However, if we take a minute to reflect on all that we have, material and non-material, we'd know how blessed we truly are. Finding the Lesson or Blessing
When unfortunate events take place in our lives, far too many people see it as a loss or an obstacle. Regret stirs up easily because they can't seem to figure out why they had to experience what they've experienced. However, the power here is in perception. Shifting your perception to understand that all things happen for a reason, to learn from mistakes, to use obstacles as opportunities, and to see a "loss" as room to gain are all key to finding the lesson and blessing in any situation.
Challenging Negative Thoughts
We're human and moving through a world loaded with alternate opinions while experiencing quite a lot to give us a full range of perceptions and judgements. Because of negative experiences and fear, it's much too easy for our mind to fall into negative thinking patterns. This may be, expecting the worst, making false judgements, being quick to anger, and dwelling in pessimism. However, it doesn't have to be that way. Just as we can easily choose those negative thoughts, we can also choose positive thoughts. Start by challenging a negative thought when you catch yourself thinking it. Ask yourself: is it true? Is this thought going to serve me or give me the outcome I desire? What can I swear on instead? Do this when you catch a negative thought and you'll soon build up the habit of quickly switching to positive thoughts.
