"Mindfulness" is simply the act of being aware with one's surroundings, senses, feelings, emotions, and body. Being out of touch with these things can lead to living and acting without purpose and intention, living a distracted, stagnant life, and having unfulfilling experiences. Who wants that? No one! By practicing mindfulness daily, we can develop a habit of being in tune with our true selves, needs, and desire. We can develop an unshakeable inner peace and joy, and we can enjoy life on an elevated level, which allows us to tap into the process of self renewal, and even reinvention.
5 Tips to Practice Mindfulness Daily
2. Check in With Yourself. A lot of people are unaware of their own emotions. This can lead to acting without thinking, saying regrettable things, and suppressing emotions. To avoid having those type of behaviors rule your life, develop a habit of checking in with yourself and asking yourself, "How do I feel right now". Acknowledge your emotions, your current state, your comfort level, and what has your attention. If there is anything that upsets you, pause and find a healthy way of dealing with it.
3. Be Present. Often times, our minds are somewhere else. We can get lost in thoughts of the past (things that we can do nothing about), or in the future (a place that doesn't exist yet) Routines and responsibilities can take away from the value of the present moment (the place where all of our power exists). Practice being present as much as you can. Slow down and enjoy your meal. Take a moment to delve deeper into your 5 senses during an enjoyable moment, admire something or someone. Simply savor where you are.
4. Keep a Gratitude Journal. Since I began keeping a gratitude journal, I have been opened up more and more to what truly matters, how favored I am, the endless possibilities of life, and what it truly means to be blessed and wealthy. I highly recommend keeping a gratitude journal!
5. Relax and Just Be. Each and every day each of us has to get up and play our role in the world. Whether you are a daughter, mother, wife, husband, employee, CEO, teacher, barista...we all have an assumed role! This role that we play in society comes with responsibility, expectations from others, and sometimes the need to wear a mask. This causes us to always busy ourselves with something, and to always strive. However, even with the role we assume, we are all just people. We were born valuable but somehow we ALL lose sight of this. Take a moment to just be. Sit still, breathe, admire yourself, appreciate who you are, celebrate everything that you are in the simplest form. Do this often!
