The Art of Protecting Your Peace

Confession: Over the years, I may have grown into a "peace extremist". It's almost a scary way to think, because I wonder if I'd become addicted to protecting my peace at ALL costs. When I've truly mastered the art of protecting my peace at all costs, what would it look like? Well, admittedly, past efforts of protecting my peace have looked a bit whacky from far off. Waking up and getting rid of a car, tossing away almost my whole wardrobe (read all about it here), uprooting myself from my home in a day, going miles and miles for walks just to clear my mind (not recommended), loving someone from a distance, starting from scratch in my social life...it's nearly frightening to think that it could get more extreme than that. However truthfully, protecting your peace doesn't need to be so complicated at all. It can be the simple ways that you protect your peace which can have major impact.

This is Why You Feel Like a Failure

4/10/2020

Looking around at society with a bit of observation, one thing can for sure be concluded: everyone is busy. Not just any "busy", but some sort of a frantic, rushed, anxious busy. We work, we strive, we contemplate on what's next based off of our circumstances. We all desire, deep down inside, to be better and to live better lives. We have goals daily that we move toward with such vigor, in hopes to "make it", and to finally obtain that next level of comfort. At the end of the day, what do we feel? The majority of us are not fulfilled, and if anyone were to disagree, I would immediately point out the quality of living for the average American, the ways in which we define ourselves, what we do for pain, and what we do for joy. With that said, if we cannot find ourselves fulfilled, calm, peaceful, confident, and in bliss for the majority of our day and at bedtime, then there is more than likely some part of us that feels like a failure. What influences could trigger such vile thoughts within self? Obviously, if there are influences that cause us to feel like a failure, they reside externally and shape us internally. Why? It is because with our lack of self-worth and self-confidence, we allow them to. So then, what are the damaging elements that cause us to feel like a failure? Let's explore: Below are 7 common habits that can cause us to feel like "failures".

1. Comparison
Comparing yourself to someone else is one of the ultimate forms of disrespect. It's as if you discredit your own goodness for the admiration of someone else's. Are YOU not special, talented, and accomplished? Everyone has different journeys and no two roads are the same, this is why we are different.

2. Living up to what is "expected" of you
You cannot please everyone! Sadly, some of us do try. We worry about our actions, words, and choices being acceptable in the eyes of others. We often want to maintain a certain image that is familiar to everyone else in order to maintain love, respect, and acceptance. This encourages a longing in the spirit and if not careful, causes us to lose touch with true self.

3. Allowing things to define you
So many of us lack an understanding of how valuable we truly are, therefore, we seek value in other things. This is usually due to outside influences that crowd our judgement while we are "lost".
