This is why it is important to be intentional with your days. To not allow your days to rule you, but to seek to rule your days. I speak a little about being mindful daily in my #AMindfulMoment podcast mini-episodes (click to hear), because over time, I have realized just how important it is to be mindful and intentional with each fresh day we are given.
One thing I love is the reality of fresh beginnings. Newness. Fresh starts. If you feel like you've never had the luxury of these things, think again. Every waking day, no matter what annoyances, "problems", and unresolved issues carries over into the next day, is a fresh start. Each day has never existed before, making it different and certainly new. With this perspective, it is easy to understand just how much potential each day holds.

Breathe. The best thing about taking a breather once in a while throughout your busy day is that at any time of the day, while doing any activity, we can take deep breaths to reconnect. Whether you're driving in the car, shuffling through papers, or on the computer getting tasks done, take a moment to take 3 deep breaths to relax and reconnect. Put on Some Music and Cook a Meal. We all have to eat, and with a busy lifestyle, home - cooked, healthy meals are the perfect option to nourish the body. Allot time in your schedule for cooking. Fix one of your favorite meals and zone out. Put on some music and simply enjoy yourself. Let Someone Else Do The Driving. With so many options today to catch a ride and look cool doing it, such as Uber and Lyft, you can always let someone else do the driving for you while you catch up on emails, finish a written task, or simply just relax and enjoy the ride. We've heard much too often that "less is more", but how many of us acknowledge the truth in this phrase which has been taken too lightly? In a society that is always aiming to grasp our attention by offering more, where can we break through the complications and indulge in the power of simplicity? Simplicity is an art that begins within self. As I've discovered so far, less truly is more, and there is a powerful force that heals our frustrations once we surrender to the power of simplicity. What does that entail? Read on for six tips (and reasons) to simplify your life on your holistic self care journey. Purge Your Surroundings.
Believe it or not, our external atmosphere has plenty to do with our inner. "As within, so without" tells us that anything that happens in our outer reality first began internally. As weird as it may sound, when I need clarity or am frustrated "for no reason", I begin to clean and declutter my surroundings for help. It works! Get Rid of the Long To-Do List...Seriously. Who doesn't want to be productive? The truth is, we all do. We often look at productivity the wrong way. Rather than viewing productivity through the quality we've contributed to our time, we can, if we are not careful, mistakenly view it as how much time we've contributed. Productivity is not about staying busy, it is about strategically applying quality. Less is more. Unfortunately, we feel that the more complex we make things, the more value it has. Not true. Go through your to-do list and simplify tasks. What can be combined? What is unrealistic? Why are you doing certain tasks? What can help you avoid stress burnout? Stop Spreading yourself So Thin. The truth is, a lot of us care about someone or something. Another truth is, our care for so many things can bring a lot of stress into our lives. Many of us seek to be involved in a lot in life, simply because we are available, able, and want to remain loyal to whatever we are associated with. However, we must begin to acknowledge our boundaries and self care. I know all too well about being superwoman and spreading my self too thin. Being involved in and available to too much is a recipe for stress and frustration. Take the load off of yourself sometimes and relax. Social media has grown to be such a great tool that satistfies many, despite the uniqueness of us all. It seems that each time we look up, social media enables us to go further with exploration and expression. It's truly a wondrous concoction.
The controversial side of social media, however, is the fact that it is an open, uncensored, all-access tool and nearly anything goes, and with one tool, anyone is able to access it all. Many believe that this poses a threat to our influence. Hot topics and viral videos crowd our feeds whether we prefer it or not, explicit content plays automatically on some feeds, some platforms encourage dangerous discretion and dishonesty, and there's seemingly no limit to what can be posted. How can we indulge in social media without unwanted, negative influences bombarding our view? Read on for 5 ways to use social media without being negatively influenced. With the constant reminders of worldly woes, restrictions, and cautions taking place in 2020, many of us wonder how Summer will look. Although we are nearly half way through the year, plenty of us are of course still aiming to achieve new goals or take on new habits. Altough there is a lot of advice, opinions, and tips out there to get people to those points of success, including my recent posts, nothing compares to starting with self and having a vision for the things you wish to accomplish. One way to do that is by creating a "Personal Vision Statement".
A personal vision statement is literally a statement that summarizes and reminds you of what you expect of yourself and the qualities you'd like to gain. Why a personal vision statement? Here are 3 reasons: I recently saw a quote that read "don't just be good to others, be good to yourself too", and it had me thinking: are we truly good to ourselves? Does everything we do honor ourselves in some sort of way? Honoring self is a task that runs deep, and one that I've had to strengthen in my own life. I could easily blame being stressed out and used up on other people, but they were just were signs that I hadn't been honoring myself, and I'm sure many other people have experienced this at one point or another in life. So what can we do to honor ourselves better than what we've been practicing? Begin with these six tips to change the way you treat yourself, and get better results out of life.
![]() Nothing changes until... something changes, and if nothing changes, then nothing changes. Whether we want to admit that or not, our refusal to change is the reason we lack what we desire and is almost always our own fault. Did you know that May is recognized as "National Recommitment Month"? On the list of too many national days, months, and weeks to count, this is actually one I find necessary and will completely stand by. While commitment may be the act of simply doing what you said you would do no matter what, it unfortunately isn't that simple for many. However, commitment isn't something that we can just brush under the rug in our everyday lives. Commitment is a major component of everyday life. So no, there is no waking up one day and saying "This commitment thing is hard, I'm not going to do it today". It simply does not work that way. Everyday is a commitment. You may be committed to going to work to receive pay, or committed to taking a shower to stay clean, committed to eating a meal to nourish your body, committed to paying for services and costs to receive their benefits and features, etc. The list goes on, but as you can clearly see, commitment is a way of life, and there's no escaping it. May being National Recommitment Month is perfect for focusing our energies into what we truly desire. It's the fifth month of the year, foreshadowing our halfway through the year mark, reminding us of the goals and visions that we've had in place at the start of the new year, and pulling us out of the comfort that we may have unconsciously slipped into.
Stress. It's the "S" word that can effortlessly creep up without warning, and something that most of us are very likely to deny. So how do we cope with stress that we somehow have invited in? In reality, stress is the result of our tendency to over-complicate, overthink, and perhaps over-analyze various parts of our lives, Luckily, eliminating stress isn't as complicated as inviting it in; in fact, eliminating stress can be a very simple process.
